Kiran Rao’s film Laapataa Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars, the Film Federation of India announced on Monday. According to PTI, the Hindi movie, a humorous take on patriarchy, was chosen from 29 films.

Laapataa Ladies: Recently, Kiran said the Film Federation of India (FFI) will pick the best film. “My dream would be fulfilled if it was, if it would go (to Oscars). But it’s a process, and I’m hoping it’ll (Laapataa Ladies) be considered. I’m sure the best film will go, whoever they choose in the scheme of things,” Kiran told PTI.
‘Laapataa Ladies’ is a wholesome tale of mistaken identities set in rural India. This heartwarming tale revolves around a pair of young brides who switch places by accident. The movie marks the cinematic debut of Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel etc. The movie was screened at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
